Alaska Fishing Vacation

Alaska, as the 49th state to the union, is known as America’s “Last Frontier”.  The fishing in Alaska is as legendary as the state.   The fishing opportunities to be found in Alaska are unsurpassed anywhere else in the world.  The salmon and halibut population of the rivers and oceans in Alaska are awaiting you – the angler.

Did you know that rivers can hold world records?   The Kenai River is located on the Kenai Peninsula in south central Alaska and is a popular fishing destination.   The salmon species and other fish which can be found in the Kenai River have won nearly two dozen IFGA world records.  The world record King Salmon weighed in at 97 lbs. 4 oz although the average weight is 45 pounds.  However, it is not uncommon to catch the King Salmon weighing 60 pounds or more.  Why not visit the Kenai River in May thru July for your chance to catch that trophy King Salmon?

Fact-file.  Although Alaska is twice as large as Texas it has comparatively very few roads leaving plenty of wide open spaces.  Nature has been busy at work and the scenery is breathtaking.  So, take some time off from your fishing and hike the trails or canoe along the beautiful rivers.   Alaska is home to 3.5 million lakes of 20 acres or more.  You could rent a cabin on the lakeside and feel invigorated every time you look across the lake.

Wildlife in Alaska is diverse and abundant.   Brown bears abound in Alaska and the visitor must be wary and treat them with respect.   Black bears are widely scattered throughout Alaska and pose a problem to humans as they like to wander around populated areas.   Other species of bear are found all over the country.  No wonder that bear viewing is a popular attraction.  To be on the safe side, you could go bear viewing on a special bus in the Denali National Park.   Moose and Caribou are also abundant and you will certainly come across them during your adventure vacation in beautiful Alaska.

For that diverse vacation, fishing, bear viewing, hiking or just relaxing to enjoy the beauty of nature your destination has to be Alaska where you can experience it all.
